Someone at McDonald’s has decided to make a spinoff of its iconic pork sandwich, the McRib, reports Burger Business. It’s called the McRibster, and it’s hitting McDonald’s locations in Austria today. It’s described as having, “juicy pork, bacon, pepper-Jack cheese, and crunchy iceberg lettuce, red onion, delicious honey-mustard sauce and spicy sweet chilli sauce.”
McDonald’s usually doesn’t mess with its classic products because it tries to maintain brand equity. Each sandwich is its own unique brand. For instance, it would never, ever mess with the Big Mac (at least in the form of another burger—there is a snack wrap version).
But something like the McRibster has the potential to get some viral buzz because of its intensely devoted cult following, so it may be worth it. Did its marketers have that in mind when they came up with the sandwich, or was this just some crazy idea? We’ll likely never know.
If you’re in Austria and run into this strange new sandwich, shoot an email to [email protected] and tell us how it is. We must know.
