Dutch mother of two Mary-Anne Goossens had been hiking in Andalusia, Spain, when she fell in a ravine and was unable to get out, The Telegraph reports. She spent almost three weeks in the hole, drinking water from a nearby waterfall.
It was only when another group of hikers saw her she was rescued. The hikers left clothes and food before contacting a rescue team, who used a helicopter to rescue the 48-year-old.
Goossens, who works as a librarian in her home country, is described as “hungry and tired” by the family’s spokesperson.
“She thought of eating ants but in the end she could not do it,” a Dutch doctor who treated Goossens in Spain told the AFP.
