News Corp. may have been betting that if their dispute and subsequent removal from the New York City cable company extended until the World Series, and that Yankee fans in New York City were suddenly missing the chance to watch their boys win it all, that Cablevision customers would revolt and demand that FOX be returned to the airwaves.
“Look how valuable we are!”, Fox could shout. “You need us more than we need New York.”
But now that the World Series will almost certainly not involve a Gotham team—and as baseball’s popularity continues to wane—it may be weeks before anyone even notices FOX is off the air. There simply may not be enough Glee fans in the outer boroughs to sway Cablevision’s from their position.
