Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer had a baby boy last night, her husband Zachary Bogue just tweeted.”Baby boy Bogue born last night. mum (@marissamayer) and baby are doing great–we couldn’t be more excited!”
Mayer joined Yahoo two months ago.
She not only worked last week, she briefed all Yahoo employees on her plan for saving the company.
Disclosing the pregnancy in July, Mayer told Fortune that she does not plan to take a full maternity leave.
“I like to stay in the rhythm of things,” she said. “My maternity leave will be a few weeks long and I’ll work throughout it.”
Some women in business think Mayer is making a big mistake not taking a leave.
Kara Nortman, the Senior Vice President of Consumer Businesses at CityGrid Media, wrote an impassioned blog post asking Mayer to “take a real maternity leave of some variety!”
Nortman wrote: “Whether Marissa realises it or not, the way she treats maternity leave will serve as an example or an anti-example for all woman looking for a path, for those women who do not want “to gap” their ambition, but also want to enjoy being a parent.”
