Marine Le Pen May Not Be Able To Compete In The French Election

Marine Le Pen

Marine Le Pen, leader of the far right party National Front, has complained that she will not be able to collect the 500 signatures of elected officials required to participate in the upcoming French presidential election, RFI reports.

The publication thinks that the elected officials may be worried about being associated with the NF (the list is published a few weeks before the elections) – but politicians from the two biggest parties (the UMP and the Socialists) say that Le Pen is probably bluffing.

If true, however, this could be good news for Sarkozy. Recent polls suggested that Le Pen could take up to 21 per cent of the vote, almost as high as Sarkozy himself and likely splitting his vote.
