Mariano Rivera Injures Knee During Batting Practice Leaving His Career In Jeopardy

Mariano Rivera injured his knee as he was chasing a flyball during batting practice prior to tonight’s game in Kansas City. Rivera appeared to be in a considerable amount of pain, but was seen smiling as he was carted off the field.

UPDATE: According the New York Times, Rivera tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and his season is likely over.

Rivera, 42, has hinted that he will retire at the end of the season. With his season likely done, his career could be over. However, if Rivera was considering retirement, one has to wonder if a season-ending knee injury might persuade him to postpone those plans for a year.

Here is video of the injury….
