Larry Ellison booted Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff from his speaking slot at the Oracle OpenWorld conference, so Benioff just moved down the street to the Ame restaurant in the St. Regis Hotel.Benioff said that about 1,000 people were turned away because there wasn’t enough room.
So far, the presentation very similar to Benioff’s speech at his own Dreamforce conference last month, including comparisons of old software with Arab dictators.
But Benioff also used the sudden switch as a case study for how Salesforce’s new social software features can help businesses adapt quickly.
As he noted, most people at the event heard about it on social networks — specifically from a tweet Benioff put out yesterday afternoon.
And of course, he couldn’t resist a few shots at Oracle. “The message of this show is proprietary hardware and software….At least last year, we heard ‘well, we have the cloud too.’ This year, we haven’t even heard that.”
