A woman now widely known for pictures of her riding a manatee in Florida has turned herself in to police.A woman, now identified as Ana Gloria Garcia Gutierrez, was caught riding the gentle marine creature Sunday near Fort De Soto Park, Pinellas Beaches Patch reported at the time.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies released photos of the then-unknown woman piggybacking the animal and asked for help finding her after she horrified beachgoers.

“I was shocked when I saw this lady in the water with the Manatees that were mating, It got worse as she sat on the Manatee, then RODE the Manatee,” a commenter told Patch. “With people screaming from the shore. She finally got away from them as they swam off to deeper water. Rangers were called and took care of the situation.”

Gutierrez has now turned herself in to authorities. She called the Pinellas County Communications centre on Tuesday to identify herself as the rogue manatee-rider, Old Northeast-Downtown St. Pete Patch reported Wednesday.

Gutierrez reportedly didn’t realise it was illegal to touch sea cows — something that is in fact a second-degree misdemeanour.
