A man was arrested on Tuesday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after police say he ran on the tarmac and jumped on the wing of a plane.
Shortly before 5 p.m. ET, Jhryin Jones, 19, sprinted onto a runway at the world’s busiest airport and ran up to a Delta Air Lines plane from Miami that had just landed, Atlanta’s WSB-TV reported, citing law-enforcement officials.
In a video obtained by WSB-TV, the man can be seen wearing only grey boxer briefs. WSB-TV said the airport confirmed that he jumped a fence to get on the runway.
Additionally, WSB-TV obtained cockpit recordings from the aeroplane.
“He’s tossing some stuff around,” a person can be heard saying in the recording. “My guess is he’s got his clothes off, and now he’s laying on the pavement, maybe doing a pushup.”
Mobile phone video shot by a passenger on the Delta flight appears to show the man yelling, talking to himself, and gesturing.
WSB-TV reported that Jones jumped on the wing of the Delta plane and pounded on the windows, at once disturbing and amusing some passengers.
Jones was taken into custody within five minutes, according to WSB-TV.
Delta declined to comment, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to another local Atlanta station, WXIA-TV, that the incident forced one of the runways to close. Officials redirected traffic to other runways until police examined the plane, the report said.
