One of the recipients of Olive Garden’s Never Ending Pasta Pass wants to get his money’s worth.
A blogger who goes by Vino has vowed to eat nothing but Olive Garden for 49 days, the duration of the $US100 pasta pass.
We spoke to Vino, 26, who lives in Fargo, North Carolina, and works in scientific manufacturing. Vino, who declined to give his real name, is documenting the journey on his blog All Of Garden. So far, he’s nine days into the challenge.
Business Insider: The Never Ending Pasta Passes were so popular that Olive Garden’s website crashed when they went on sale. How did you get yours?
Vino: The day before it came out, I got a bunch of my internet friends to log on and try to get one. It actually worked for my friend, and he gave it to me.
BI: Were you a fan of Olive Garden before this started?
V: Oh yeah, I’ve been going there for seven years now. I love their food. I belonged to an online gaming community where we all named ourselves after Olive Garden dishes.
BI: Are you going to order a variety of things from the menu, or stick to the same things?
V: My goal is to eat all 180 possible combinations of pasta, sauce, and toppings. So I’ll probably be ordering something different every time.
BI: What is the best thing you’ve had so far?
V: I love the Shrimp Fritta with penne and alfredo sauce. It’s hard to come by good seafood in Fargo, and Olive Garden does a great job.
BI: Are you tired of the food yet?
V: No, not at all! I expected that I might be but so far it’s been really good. I actually have been looking forward to it every day. It’s the highlight of my evening.
BI: What about breakfast?
V: If I’m hungry for breakfast, I eat leftovers. I have a ton of leftovers in the fridge right now.
BI: Are you concerned about weight gain?
V: I am careful to watch my portions, so I don’t think that weight will be an issue.
