Last fall, Major League Baseball and the players’ union agreed on a new expanded, 10-team playoff format, that will include two Wild Card teams from each league. But what the two sides did not agree upon was when the new format would begin.Bud Selig is still hopeful that the players will agree to the new scheduling format and allow the expanded playoff this season…
“I really believe we’ll have the wild card for 2012, this year,” Selig said Friday night in Chicago at a White Sox fan festival. “Clubs really want it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an issue that the clubs want more than to have the extra wild card this year.
We are now two weeks from the first workouts for most Major League Baseball teams. And yet, despite being less than a month away from the first spring training games, Major League Baseball still doesn’t know how many teams will qualify for the playoffs.
Maybe they will get this figured out before October. Then again, it is Major League Baseball. If any league could screw this up, it is them.
