Much of Bernie Madoff’s estate, from properties in Manhattan and Palm Beach, to Ruth’s old shoes, has already been sold off.
Now you can own a piece of his sizeable wine and liquor collection, since it’s safe to assume he won’t be enjoying it anytime soon.
The Ponz’s entire liquor cabinet, estimated at around $15,000, hits the auction block May 18.
All proceeds from the sale, to be held by Morell & Co., will go directly into the fund managed by the federal government to compensate victims of his $65 billion scheme.
According to the auctioneer:
…we have humbly accepted the opportunity to sell the seized cellar contents of two properties owned by Bernie Madoff on behalf of the United States Marshals office.
…as artifacts of history they are unique, which is why we have chosen to offer all of the bottles seized, including those which normally wouldn’t pass muster and make it into our auction. Some of the bottles are better viewed as conversation pieces rather than valued for their contents, but conversation pieces they are.
From the looks of the auction catalogue, Madoff was particularly fond of Bordeaux. But he also had an apparent taste for the hard stuff, as the collection includes bottles of Jose Cuervo, Jack Daniels, and Johnnie Walker Black Label.
