Some sad news for the canine world. Lucky, the maltese owned by Animal Fair magazine founder and big-time animal advocate Wendy Diamond, has passed away.Even sadder, the pampered pooch was to get married this summer in a $140,000 ceremony that has been billed as the most expensive dog wedding ever. At least there’s no heartbroken groom in the mix—Lucky still hadn’t picked one out.

Strangely, news of Lucky’s untimely death from cancer broke less than an hour after the New York Observer published a lengthy tome about the dog’s wedding plans.

They included a $4,000 dog dress, a sushi station, and a chupah, since lucky is Jewish, according to the Observer‘s Drew Grant.

In an obituary on the Animal Fair website, Diamond says that the wedding will go on as scheduled, except as a celebration of Lucky’s life.

The event will take place at the Jumeirah Essex House in July.

Lucky, who Diamond adopted in 1999, currently holds the Guinness World Record as the animal most photographed with celebrities. She was at 363, including Bill Clinton, Rosie O’Donnell, and Dave Matthews.
