It’s official, Lucas van Praag is out at Goldman Sachs, says New York Magazine’s Daily Intel.
His response to the magazine’s e-mail regarding his ousting? “C’est la vie.”
This should surprise no one, as news that Goldman Sachs was in talks to hire James Siewart, a former aide to Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, for a ‘similar position’ came from Bloomberg yesterday.
Additionally, Daily Intel reports that inside sources say that van Praag was on the outs for some time, but Goldman didn’t want to show any weakness by firing him.
All that said, van Praag is known for making cutting statements and really digging at the press. We’ll miss that, so here’s a classic van Praag quote for the road.
On Matt Taibbi’s Vampire Squid Goldman story (to the NY Post):
“(The story) is an hysterical compilation of conspiracy theories,” he wrote in an e-mail. “Notable ones missing are Goldman Sachs as the third shooter [in JFK’s assassination] and faking the first lunar landing.”
