Lolo Jones snuck into the last spot in the 100m hurdles final as the “fastest loser” in the semifinals.She ran a 12.71 after she got out to a horrible start. That’s 0.03 worse than she ran this morning in the qualifying heats.
Sally Pearson, the gold-medal favourite, ran a 12.39 — the best time in the world this year.
The semifinals consisted of three heats, with the top two finishers in each heat advancing to the final automatically. Then, the two “fastest losers” from those heats also advance to the final.
That’s how Lolo got in, despite coming in third place in her heat.
The final is at 4 pm.
