LivingSocial Buys A South Korean Daily Deals Site

LivingSocial has announced that it’s bought TicketMonster, a daily deals site in South Korea. The South Korean daily deals market is a tough nut to crack, as Groupon has been discovering. 

Back in April, we interviewed Coupang Founder/CEO Bom Kim, who is the leader in the daily deals market there and where Groupon hasn’t been doing well last we heard.

The problem is that because the internet is so pervasive in South Korea, people have different expectations both in terms of user experience (because everyone has really fast broadband, the sites are much more media-rich) and in terms of service (people will call several times over a deal). Maybe by buying a local partner, as it has been doing in France, LivingSocial can figure it out.
