LivingSocial is unveiling “Instant Deals,” a service designed to bring realtime deals to shoppers.LivingSocial CEO Tim O’Shaughnessy told us about this when we spoke to him last month.
“Millions of our users already have our Android or iPhone app,” said O’Shaughnessy. “You’ll be able to pull up the app and see realtime offers that might only be up for two hours.”
Instant Deals relies upon a hardware system that LivingSocial provides to each merchant. Users will be able to buy the product on their phones and the merchant’s device will reflect that you’ve already paid for the item. You only need to go pick it up.
“If you look at it from a consumer perspective, merchants can basically tell you how much they want your business, and if you look at it from a merchant perspective, if they’re having a slow lunch rush and it’s 12:30, they have an immediate way to juice that,” said O’Shaughnessy.
The pilot program starts in Washington, DC. If it works out, LivingSocial will roll it out wider.
