Update: an earlier version of this post said the letter was from the club president to the GM. The letter was actually from a member to the president and GM. The post has been corrected. The 125-year-old Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta calls itself “one of the most prestigious private clubs in the south,” but a new letter from a member of the golf club to its president and general manager alleging some horrible behaviour at a recent golf tournament hosted by the club makes it seem like a lot more like a frat house.
Some highlights from the letter (sent to us by Golf Vacation Insider‘s Craig Better):
- “One member decided to play the 14th hole completely naked. I have not researched it, but I suspect this is a crime in Georgia.”
- “One member decided to show off to other members, and a caddie, his ability to pick up a golf ball with his naked butt cheeks. I suspect that this behaviour, if it occurred at Bobby Jones Golf Course – would have resulted in a call to the police and the arrest of the offender.”
- “On Friday night, one of the drunken golfers passed out in the men’s grill, and another member opened his pants, pulled out his penis, and slapped the passed out member’s head with his penis.”
The club member, unsurprisingly, has asked for a full investigation.
He’s also called for a public shaming, writing, “this behaviour, if confirmed, and the sanctions imposed by the Board, should be well publicized throughout the Club. Among other things, let the wives and children of these drunkards be confronted with, and ashamed by, the grotesque conduct of their husbands and fathers.”
Check out the full text of the letter, below. The whole thing sounds kind of hilarious, unless you happened to be at the rehearsal dinner that was ruined by the drunk club members’ behaviour.
