The deceased wife of a former police officer reportedly lived in terror of her husband before her death.Disgraced Bolingbrook, Ill., cop Drew Peterson is suspected of killing his third and fourth wives.
He was indicted in May 2009 and charged with murdering his third wife Kathleen Savio.
Before her death in 2004, Savio told her lawyer she worried Peterson would kill her and “make it look like an accident,” attorney Harry Smith testified Wednesday in a pretrial hearing, according to Bolingbrook Patch.
“You can’t let him get away with it,” Savio reportedly told Smith.
Judge Edward Burmila has not yet decided whether Smith will be allowed to testify at Peterson’s murder trial.
But Peterson’s attorney has made it quite clear he thinks Smith is capitalising on the tragedy for personal gain.
“He wants people to see him as a hero. It’s business,” Peterson defence attorney Steve Greenberg told Bolingbrook Patch, adding that Smith only wants to get his face on TV.
Peterson is also the only suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife Stacy Peterson. He faces no charges in Stacy Peterson’s case.
