What happened today:
Trump reportedly told the DOJ to lie. Former President Donald Trump reportedly pressured the top two Department of Justice officials in late December to publicly announce that the 2020 election was “corrupt,” despite the department’s conclusion that there was no evidence to support the claim. “Just say that the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me,” Trump reportedly said.
“F— ’em.” President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, didn’t mince words when responding to those who criticized his art as being pricey and overrated. A New York gallery owner had estimated that the younger Biden’s paintings could sell for anywhere from $US75,000 ($AU102,097) to $US500,000 ($AU680,644) apiece, prices more typically seen for established and successful artists.
Scarlett fires back. Scarlett Johansson’s agent accused Disney of revealing her salary in “an attempt to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman.” Johansson sued Disney on Thursday, claiming the release of Marvel’s “Black Widow” on its streaming service at the same time as theaters violated her contract because her pay was largely tied to the movie’s box-office earnings. Disney responded with its own statement revealing that the actress earned $US20 ($AU27) million.
Quantity over quality. A survey of 1,800 workers found that people are dissatisfied amidst what should be a hot job market as openings skyrocket. Forty-one percent said there “aren’t enough openings in their preferred professions” and 46% said they were only finding openings for low-wage roles.
Serious couple goals. Simone Biles’ boyfriend, NFL star Jonathan Owens, expressed his support on Instagram Thursday after Biles withdrew from two gymnastics events to focus on her mental health. Owens wrote: “Your strength and courage is unmatched and you inspire me more and more everyday SB. You always gone be my champ baby and don’t you ever forget that, i love you so much.” We’re ugly crying.
That’s all for now. See you on Monday.
