Comedian and KIIS FM radio co-host Dave Hughes says he took a pay cut to ensure his co-host, Kate Langbroek was on equal pay.
The move follows on air revelations back in March that Langbroek was being paid 40% less than Hughes, who was unaware of the significant difference.
“I had no idea what we get paid,” he told Langbroek at the time. “Now I feel terrible”.
Since then, the pair have worked together to ensure they earn the same pay, including when they recently signed a new deal with the Hit Network for 2018.
“When we go to our new job, we get pay parity,” Langbroek said on air yesterday. “And we’re on parity now.
“And I couldn’t be happier, obviously,” Hughes said. “You deserve it”.
This week Lisa Wilkinson made a shock departure from Nine’s Today morning show after ten years of working with her co-host Karl Stefanovic.
She walked away from the position after drawn-out pay negoiations broke down, after she demanded parity to Stefanovic’s salary.
Yesterday Nine said it wasn’t an option to pay Wilkinson the same amount due to her “multiple commercial contracts”. More on that here.
