An Arab man is claiming United Airlines flight attendants mistakenly believed his camera was a bomb and threatened to have his flight from Peru landed in Mexico so he could be arrested. In his lawsuit against United Airlines, Khaled Ibrahim said he was flying from Lima, Peru, to Houston when several flight attendants “violated his civil rights, assaulted him, battered him, as well as falsely arrested and falsely imprisoned him” in January 2012, Courthouse News Service reported Thursday.
The flight attendants also allegedly called Ibrahim a terrorist and accused him of carrying a bomb disguised as a camera, when the device in question was actually just a camera.
Ibrahim’s lawsuit claims the flight attendants said he was acting “out of control” and “dangerous,” according to CNS.
He is seeking damages for discrimination, emotional distress, and false arrest, among other claims.
United Airlines didn’t immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
