Californian artist Kendrick Lamar has taken out the top spot on the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown with his hit “Humble”.

Australian rock group Gang Of Youths came in at number two with their hit “Let Me Down Easy”.

The countdown was moved to Saturday, January 27 after Triple J said the countdown had become “a symbol in the debate about Australia Day” and the station found itself a key focus of the #changethedate movement.

“The Hottest 100 wasn’t created as an Australia Day celebration,” the radio station said when announcing the decision to move the date last November.

The countdown now takes place on the fourth weekend of January each year.
