TMZ is reinforcing the rumour that Scott Pelley will replace Katie Couric when she leaves the anchor chair next month.
TMZ says that Pelley, currently a correspondent for 60 Minutes, is the choice of new CBS chairman Jeff Fager who made one of the conditions of his hire that he get to pick the new anchor.
Not that there’s all that much to choose from.
From TMZ: “We’re told Pelley, 53, is the choice for two reasons. First, he’s well-liked and respected by his bosses, and second … there really is no second choice who is appealing to the CBS honchos.”
Oof. Not that Pelley isn’t great, he is. But putting a middle-aged white man in the anchor chair isn’t exactly the bold decision that’s going to save the Evening News from it’s inevitable demise.
