- Attendees at one of Kanye West’s outdoor Sunday Service events vented in online posts about the unappealing food options and disorganization that were so bad, they earned comparisons to the disastrous Fyre Festival.
- Some concert-goers who paid $US55 for a “Brunchella” meal before the show were dismayed to get cold food in small portions doled out on styrofoam.
- West’s performance was delayed by an hour and a half as a four-track playlist played on a loop apparently tortured the waiting attendees, some of whom used the hashtag #YeezyFyreFest.
- The rapper has been ramping up his Sunday Service events, which include a program that mixes Christian messaging and his songs, around the release of his newest album, Jesus is King.
Local vendors and organisations that collaborated with Kanye West in Louisiana for one of his outdoor Sunday Services have been targeted online after the event featured unappealing food options and disorganization so bad that it earned comparisons to the disastrous Fyre Festival.
West was set to perform Friday night at Bethany Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, putting on his Sunday Service, a mix of preaching Christian messaging and performing songs from his new album, Jesus Is King.
The concert was free, but attendees could purchase a $US55 “Brunchella” meal before the concert, all proceeds from which would go to the church.
However, the breakfast options failed to wow at least one person, who posted a photo of a styrofoam plate with two dry pancakes and skinny pieces of bacon on a Facebook status, which went viral.
“This is the wonderful & COLD brunch BUFFET we are being served by Boil & Roux Br. & the server looked at me crazy when I asked for another pancake,” Kimberly Kinchen wrote above the photo, which immediately struck comparisons to the infamous photo of bread, cheese, and salad in a styrofoam container that came to symbolise the disaster of the failed music experience, Fyre Festival.
“Lauryn’s Fine Catering has been contacted about the poor service and quality of food provided during the event as a paid vendor,” the event caterer said in a statement provided to The Daily Mail. “The catering company acknowledges it did not provide adequate food for ONE attendee and a social media post went viral. Any further inquiries or food complaints associated with the event can be directed to Lauryn’s Fine Catering.”
However, the food was just the beginning of attendees’ complaints about the event. West’s performance was delayed by an hour and a half as a four-track playlist played on a loop apparently tortured the waiting attendees.
“Kanye West concert in Baton Rouge was supposed to start at 6,” one attendee tweeted. “It’s now 730 and STILL, no Kanye. Same playlist still on repeat. Slowly losing sanity.”
Some attendees who paid to be in the separate VIP section of the concert tweeted about their disbelief that only a flimsy “VIP” sign far from the stage marked the upgraded section. One attendee wrote on Twitter, “Like they really had us hanging out on a hill away from the stage, promised we’d be ushered in later, only to hit us with ‘nope’…They just need to process refunds quickly.”
