Alabama WR Julio Jones impressed scouts during the NFL combine with his uncanny athleticism topped by a speedy 4.39 40-yard dash, 11 foot 3 inch broad jump, and a vertical leap of 38.5 inches. What is even more impressive was Jones boasted stellar numbers all while dealing with a broken bone in his foot. Jones was trailing only Georgia’s WR A.J. Green for the top draft position for wide receivers, but now the gap could significantly grow with Jones being sidelined.
Jones’ injury isn’t career threatening (i.e. similar to Michael Crabtree), but his draft position is threatened while scouts wait and see how he recovers from surgery. He will need to have surgery that will require the insertion of a screw in his foot to quicken the healing process followed by an eight week rehab period. Jones was slated to be a top 15 pick, but without knowing extent of his injury and recovery, Jones’ draft position is now unclear.
