A birthday wish from the Republican presidential nominee, the University of North Carolina drum corps, and Wall Street’s glitterati were all part of Julian Robertson’s 80th birthday celebration last Saturday night.

Hedge Fund Intelligence reports Romney thanked the founder of Tiger Management for his support in a video message during the party under a tent at Lincoln centre in New York. Attendees also included Mayor Michael Bloomberg, author Tom Wolfe, and financier Wilbur Ross.

Guests were treated to caviar and barbecue pulled pork from Salisbury, North Carolina, Robertson’s hometown and the UNC marching band was flown in to perform the school’s fight song.

A live band played everything from Cee-Lo to James Brown.

Robertson thanked his family and spoke of meeting Blue Ridge Capital’s John Griffin and Tiger’s Chase Coleman, the co-hosts of the event. He said he was ready for the next 80 years.
