Kansas City Chiefs player Jovan Belcher exchanged texts with an old college teammate the night before he killed his girlfriend and then himself, David Epstein of Sports Illustrated reports.Reggie Paramoure, who played with Belcher at Maine, mentioned how poorly the Chiefs were playing and asked him how things were going. Belcher responded “baby momma crazy,” and joked that he would use his eight guns to defend his three-month old daughter from boyfriends.
“Yea man,” Belcher replied, “our ‘o’ can’t even put 7 in the board for us, but everything good bro, baby momma crazy but I have a little girl almost 3 month man and she’s a blessing, she makes me smile on the worst day.”
“Daughter!” Paramoure wrote, and then jokingly suggested that Belcher better have a gun ready to ward off future boyfriends. “Yea man,” Belcher responded, “I got about 8 guns now, from hand Gunz to assault rifles for her little bf’s.”
Belcher murdered Kasandra Perkins (who SI described as more of a “spouse” than a “girlfriend”) the next morning by shooting her nine times, and then drove to the Chiefs’ practice facility to shoot himself.
