After World War II, the government passed the G.I. Bill, which sent millions of returning soldiers to school – giving them the skills necessary to find work in a country shifting from agriculture to manufacturing.
Today, though, the government needs to find a way to put Americans immediately back to work, says Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz.
“The best way to get the budget into balance is to reverse what happened – and that is to put America back to work,” Stiglitz tells Business Insider editor-in-chief Henry Blodget.
