Former presidential hopeful John Edwards walked away with a legal victory today.
He was declared not guilty on count three for taking illegal campaign contributions. But the jury was deadlocked on the other five counts, spurring the judge to declare a mistrial.
This afternoon’s abrupt resolution came as a surprise to everyone in the courtroom.
NBC’s Lisa Myers told Martin Bashir that U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Eagles was so shocked by the jury’s announcement she didn’t have all necessary materials with her in court.
