Coach John Calipari will get a $375,000 bonus if Kentucky wins the national title on Monday — $50,000 more than VCU’s Shaka Smart made for the whole season.Bloomberg News looked at the coaching contracts of the four gentlemen competing at the Final Four this weekend and discovered that Smart has a base salary of $325,000.
Pretty good — but Calipari has made that much just in performance bonuses already this season, not counting his nearly $4M in salary and endorsements.
Smart has earned about $163,000 in bonuses for reaching the Final Four and will get another two-month salary bump ($54,000) if the Rams make the final. Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun will earn an $87,499 if the Huskies win it all. (Butler is a private school and would not release details of Brad Stevens’ contract.)
