Joe Flacco had his best game ever on the biggest stage last night, and now he’s going to get paid. All season long Flacco — who is a free agent — and his agent have been playing hardball with the Ravens.
They want Flacco to get paid like a top-line QB, and it is believed that they want more than the ~$19 million per season that Peyton Manning gets paid.
Flacco might have gotten that kind of money regardless of how he played last night, but his MVP performance sealed the deal, according to Mike Florio of PFT.
In his column today, Florio suggested that the Ravens will either place the franchise tag on Flacco (meaning he’ll get paid $20 million for one year), or they’ll worked out a long-term deal that’s structured so Flacco’s contract doesn’t kill their salary cap space.
Either way, Flacco is getting paid.
Manning got a five-year, $96 million deal last spring. After his big game, Flacco could get something north of that, and he knows it.
Last night on NFL Network, Flacco joked that he’s going to “stick it” to Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti after Deion Sanders told him he was going to get $100 million now:
“Steve Bisciotti told me that if this happens, then I can go pound on his desk and really stick it to him. And I said that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
Good for him.
