5 amazing jobs available right now in Australia

The number of jobs is increasing in the green energy market.

The latest Green Energy Markets index shows that the number of full-time positions supported by the sector compared to late last year has increased by more than 18% to almost 23,000 positions.

Renewable energy now accounts for around 17% of Australia’s electricity supply compared to just 5% a decade ago.

The growth in the number of windfarms to 79, with a further six under construction, has helped drive job creation, including those in construction.

Chris McDonald, the Australia-New Zealand managing director of global job site Indeed, says record levels of investment is creating new opportunities for job seekers, particularly in regional areas.

“Large-scale renewable energy projects by their nature, whether solar, wind or hydro, tend to be in those rural and regional areas and that is obviously a good thing for local employment,” he says.

“In the city’s we are also seeing demand for rooftop solar systems continue to grow which creates opportunities in sales, installation and maintenance. Renewable energy is definitely a dynamic sector to be in with jobs at all levels from manual labour, technical roles through to R and D, as well as all those services that support it.”

Indeed has identified five great jobs in renewable energy:

    Creating sustainable homes. Sustainability Victoria is seeking a sustainable homes manager to help coordinate and deliver programs to support the uptake of energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives to improve houses across Victoria. Should be an experienced leader driven by team accomplishment. Based in Melbourne, a salary of $115,136-$154,076.

    Solar smarts needed. Array Technologies in Sydney, a global leader in solar tracking technology, has a position for an application and sales support engineer to earn $80,000-$100,000. Ideal candidate will combine the deep analytical abilities of engineer with a customer service mind set to help accelerate global adoption of clean and economical energy. Degree in engineering needed. Photovoltaics a bonus.

    Downwind opportunity. Technology giant GE (General Electric) has a vacancy for a site administrator based at Crookwell NSW to support its Onshore Renewable Energy Business. Primary function is to provide comprehensive administrative support for GE wind farms across NSW. An administrative qualification would be highly regarded as would experience in wind farm industry. Competitive salary.

    Green light on. Elecnor Australia in conjunction with Green Light Contractors designed and constructed one of Australia’s largest solar farms at Moree in NSW and another large-scale farm in Queensland. They are seeking a quality assurance manager to perform and oversee QA testing on site for their new major project at Port Augusta in South Australia. Two years’ QA experience. Salary $80,000.

    Just add water. Hydro Tasmania, Australia’s largest producer of renewable energy, is accepting applications across a range of disciplines for its 2019 Graduate Program, including engineering, business, science, law and finance. Opportunities to work in Hobart as well as regional sites across Tasmania. Great salary and discounts on electricity and health insurance. Applications close May 6, 2018.
