Summer is here. While many will soak up the sunshine or head to an outdoor gig for some summer sounds, the festival season also offers plenty of dynamic job opportunities.
Whether it’s managing events, booking bands, or controlling crowds, festivals are always looking for the best candidates to keep things moving behind the scenes.
“Summer has truly begun, and Australian festivals are more popular than ever,” says Ricky Fritsch, Managing Director, Australia, for global job site Indeed.
“As gigs and events draw increasingly large crowds, they have become a huge source of employment. There are some great festival jobs out there for event organisers, hospitality workers and safety staff. The season is full of opportunities.”
Indeed’s pick of five of the best festival jobs:
Bring beer to Brisbane. Love beer and big events? GABS (also known as the Great Australasian Beer Spectacular), is a much-loved drinks festival in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. This summer the event heads to Brisbane and organisers are looking for an Event Coordinator to join the team in February. The Coordinator will help GABS run an event as smooth as its drinks. You’ll be tasked with bringing 180 specially-brewed ciders and beers to Brisbane, as well as a thriving marketplace of exhibitors. The role pays $55,000-$65,000 a year.
Brilliant bar staff. GOJO Event Management and Drinks Catering wants bar staff and supervisors to see them through the Sydney summer. The group put on hospitality at cool gigs and events across the city, and are on the hunt for energetic staff to work across Sydney CBD. Previous bar experience, great communication skills, and a natural flair for customer service are a must. You’ll also need a NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol Competency Card to work at gigs on December 15, January 26, and March 9.
Careers in crowd control. Know how to manage a bustling crowd? Festival specialists Infront Security are on the lookout for crowd control and event staff for a series of gigs this summer. Security specialists are needed for Brisbane festivals including Splendour in the Grass and Listen Out. Applicants need a Security Licence, RSA Certificate, and First Aid Certificate. Staff must be flexible for 24/7 shifts and will be responsible for gate entry, bar security, overnight work, and bag searches.
Magic Masseuses. Fancy being a masseuse to the stars? Manly-based JRM Australia is searching for trained masseuses to join its business across Australia. You’ll work with professional sports teams and individual athletes competing in the NRL, A-League and AFL. There are also opportunities to work with the big names in music and entertainment at summer festivals. JRM is looking for fully-qualified therapists to work flexible hours. Successful candidates will be able to pick the amount of work they want.
Life of the party. An award-winning Melbourne mobile bar is on the lookout for staff. The Liquid Infusion Mobile Bar Service wants baristas, juice-makers and smoothie-specialists as it gears up for a host of weekly events across Victoria. You’ll serve at festivals, high-end corporate events, weddings and hen nights. Applicants must be prepared to work at least two Saturdays each month. Staff can choose whether they want part-time or full-time work. Candidates must have at least six months’ hospitality experience.
