Flights from Australia to Bali have been cancelled because of an ash cloud from a volcanic eruption at Mt Raung in Indonesia.
Both Virgin Australia and Jetstar cancelled all flights, many of them full because of school holiday bookings, to and from Denpasar today.
Virgin Australia said its team of meteorologists is monitoring the situation in consultation with the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre in Darwin.
Jetstar said winds have pushed the ash cloud close to Denpasar Airport over the last day.
“We’re not satisfied it is safe to operate services in these conditions,” a spokesperson said.
The airlines will review whether or not to fly tomorrow early in the morning.
