Australian pop singer Jessica Mauboy has made it into the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest grand final.

Competing against 17 other countries last night at the Altice Arena in Lisbon, Portugal, she wowed the judges and viewers with the song “We Got Love” written by Sydney songwriters David Musumeci and Anthony Egizii, who also wrote the last three Australian song entries into the content, according to the ABC.

What’s more impressive is that she performed whilst injured. She suffered a whiplash-style injury during rehearsals, but put on a brave face to take out one of the 10 spots advancing into the finals.

She will compete against 26 other countries on Sunday morning at the grand final, including Germany, Italy, Spain, France, the UK, hosts Portugal, and fan favourite Cyprus.

Mauboy was discovered by pop music talent show Australian Idol in 2008.

She joins the ranks of Guy Sebastian, Dami Im, and Isiah Firebrace who represented Australia in the Eurovision in previous years, who all placed in the final 10. Im took out second place for Australia in the 2016 contest.

If you’re wondering why Australia even competes in Eurovision, it’s because the ABC and SBS are both members of the European Broadcasting Union.

To watch the grand final, tune in to SBS on Sunday morning at 5am AEST.
