NRL turned NFL football star, Jarryd Hayne, has been released from the San Francisco 49ers team.

Hayne was waived from the roster after the 49ers announced that running back Kendall Gaskins would be promoted to the active roster from the team’s practice squad.

The news comes just a week after Hayne was benched by the 49ers in their match against the Seattle Seahawks.

LA correspondent Angela Cox, who reportedly spoke with Hayne’s Australian agent, Wayne Beavis, said that Hayne was “really shocked” and “very upset” by the news on Channel Seven this morning.

“He found about it on the bus on the way to the team hotel at St Louis. The team is due to play tomorrow. He thought he was going to be playing. He’s really shocked, very upset about this.”

Hayne took to Twitter early Sunday morning after the announcement.

The former Parramatta Eels star has had an incredible run with the 49ers since his debut earlier this year where he made a 53-yard dash in the 49ers’ preseason match against the Houston Texans.

Hayne was selected for the starting team in the NFL opener against the Minnesota Vikings and has since played in six games this season with eight registered carries for 25 yards.

There’s now a growing speculation that the sporting star could be signed by the Detroit Lions, the team that Hayne was rumoured to be signed with earlier this year.
