LONDON — Labour MP Jared O’Mara has been suspended from the party over series of historic online comments he made before being an MP and an allegation of verbal abuse from a woman.
The MP for Sheffield Hallam was suspended on Wednesday morning while an investigation takes place into allegations that he called a woman an “ugly b—h” in March, and made a series of sexist and homophobic posts.
O’Mara denies the allegation that he verbally abused Sophie Evans three months before he became an MP.
It comes after fellow Labour MPs called on the party to suspend O’Mara, including former shadow minister Lucy Powell and prominent backbencher Lisa Nandy.
