This is a really groundbreaking month on the jobs report.
If you’ve been following things for the last couple years, you’d know that the private sector consistently adds jobs, but that the state and local sectors bleed jobs.
Well, look at this table from the BLS. If you look down at the very bottom at the cells highlighted in blue, you’ll see that state and local hiring actually added 1K jobs from January to February— the first positive number in ages.
For what it’s worth, we predicted the end of state and local austerity last month, when Chris Christie was trumpeting tax cuts and investment in education in New Jersey.
