The Shuttle Program Is Over, So These Guys Launched An iPhone Into Space

To honour the 50th anniversary of John Glenn’s orbit of Earth, video director Jason Hakala and two of his friends took a scaled-back approach and launched an iPhone into space.

Two GoPro cameras pointed at the iPhone recorded the entire flight as the smartphone played video of earlier space missions and empowering messages from space enthusiasts like John F. Kennedy and Elon Musk.

At least a little bit of history was made on the gadget’s actual journey. Before the iPhone returned to Earth, Hakala proposed to his girlfriend in a “space broadcast.”
