Here’s another App Store success: a game called Doodle Jump is “very close” to becoming the first application to sell one million copies in a single month.

At least that’s what Igor Pusenjak, the president and founder of Lima Sky, the company behind Doodle Jump, tells us in an email.

“After announcing 1 million downloads of Doodle Jump on December 18th, we are now looking to cross the 2 million mark before the end of January,” says Igor.

So far, 1.85 million people have purchased Doodle Jump, making it the sixth highest grossing app in the App Store, as of this writing. Multiply the 1.85 million copies of Doodle Jump sold by $0.99, subtract Apple’s 30% cut of sales, and Doodle Jump has drummed up approximately $1.28 million in sales.

Igor says our maths is pretty close: “It is hard to say due to exchange rates fluctuations. Currently about 40% of the downloads are from outside of the US. So, it is probably less than that, but should be somewhere in that ballpark.”

For now Doodle Jump is strictly an iPhone application, but RealGames, a division of RealNetworks, is developing a version of the game for Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Symbian, BREW and Java. Igor could not tell us the financial terms of his agreement with RealGames.

Lima Sky’s next most popular application is AniMatch, which also sells for $0.99. Igor says it has had 130,000 downloads.

Lima Sky is a profitable operation with just Igor and his brother Marko on staff. Click here to buy the app from the App Store.
