If Apple Won't Release iPad 2 Sales Data, eBay Will

eBay has just released its data on sales of the iPad 2. Almost 12,000 iPad 2s were sold during the two weeks when it was only available in the United States, 35% to international buyers, against 65% for the first iPad. The 16GB Wi-Fi iPad 2 was the most popular at 30%.

A month or two after it releases a new product, Apple usually brags about how many units it’s shipped and/or sold. No such press release has been forthcoming about the iPad 2, despite what is by all accounts a very successful launch.

But eBay has data about how the iPad 2 has been doing on eBay, so releasing them in a world hungry for iPad 2 sales figure is a smart PR move. And it’s pretty interesting to boot.
