Apple just announced the biggest new features in iOS 6, the new software that will run iPhones and iPads this fall.We rounded up the most important new stuff coming to iOS soon.
Siri is getting a boatload of new improvements with iOS 6. Here's the breakdown:
- Siri will have sports information such as scores and player stats.
- You can make restaurant reservations with Open Table an get reviews with Yelp.
- Launch apps with Siri
- Tweet from Siri
- Siri coming to iPad
- Siri will integrate with cars within the next 12 months. Honda, Audi, Mercedes, and other big names have already signed up
As previously rumoured, iOS 6 will have built-in Facebook integration. That means you can share photos, links, videos, etc. directly to Facebook without opening the app. Third-party apps will also be able to integrate Facebook.
When you get an incoming call, you have the option to set a reminder to call that person back if you're busy. You can also send him or her a pre-written text.
If you want to temporarily disable notifications, you can enable the new 'Do Not Disturb' feature. This will keep your iPhone from lighting up or buzzing when you get a new notification.
Now when you upload photos to your iCloud account, you'll be able to share them with your friends. Your friends will also be able comment on your photos.
Now you can upload photo and video attachments to emails from within the compose window in the Mail app. You can also select certain contacts as VIPs, so their emails show up first.
The new Maps from Apple will feature turn-by-turn directions and a gorgeous 3D mode called Flyover. The detail is absolutely incredible.
Safari has a few cool new features too. You can sync your open tabs across your iOS device and Mac. You can also save articles for reading offline.
Passbook will be a one-stop app that stores your gift cards, aeroplane passes, and even concert or sporting event tickets. Apple will open up Passbook to developers, so expect to see a lot of brands using it soon.
The App Store is getting a big redesign. We don't have too many details on this yet, but here's a screenshot.
