Today’s advice comes from Glenn Clayton, founder and president of Appleton Learning, via Fast Company: “One of the biggest responsibilities we have as leaders is what we do to inspire our teams. And for me I think it starts with finding the right team members, finding people who are already passionate and driven about whatever their particular talent or gift is, and then giving them a mission, a vision, and a path forward.”
Clayton believes that inspiring your team begins before most people believe—during the hiring process. First, it’s essential that the team you’re creating is passionate about the company. Their enthusiasm is a sure way to determine their belief in the business. By hiring people who are inspired by the brand before they are even part of the team, you’re already fostering inspiration for the company.
“When people see that they can have an impact on something bigger than themselves, that’s how they get inspired, and that’s my approach to inspiring my team.”
