Engineer Robert Cezar Matei turned down a job offer at Instagram, but he’s not kicking himself over it.
Instead, he took a job at Quora.
Today, as TechCrunch just noted, he posted a long explanation of his relationship with Instagram and founder Kevin Systrom, and explained why he turned the offer down — he just believed more strongly in what Quora was doing.
Matei also says that Systrom and cofounder Mike Kreiger “struggled” to hire good engineers because a lot of people looked at Instagram as “just an app, and apps are made by hobbyists.”
But not for lack of trying. Apparently, every offer was accompanied by a personal letter “peppered with shared experiences and pictures.”
