Better break out your umbrellas if you haven’t been stashing enough cash for a rainy day. Mint.com found about one-quarter of Americans aren’t saving anything in their emergency funds

And those who do manage to siphon a bit of cash into savings each month aren’t stowing near as much as experts recommend–typically three to six month’s wages.

More than 40 per cent have less than 5 months savings and nearly one-third said they wouldn’t be able to come up with an extra $2,000 for an emergency. (See 7 steps every couple should take to prepare for disaster.)
