The rise of meatless burgers are sparking some serious questions among customers.
We pulled the nutritional info for the Beyond Burger and Impossible Burger patties to see how the two popular plant-based burger brands compared to each other. We also included some popular beefy burger options: Burger King’s patty and the original patty from frozen-burger brand Bubba Burger.
Here is how the burgers actually compare:
The Bubba Burger is a clear outlier among the burgers. (We bolded the highest figure in each nutritional category.) It has almost twice as much fat and calories as the other patties we analysed. The Bubba Burger is also the largest burger in the lineup, at 151 grams compared to Beyond Burger, Impossible Burger, and Burger King’s 113 grams.
However, when it comes to sodium, the plant-based burgers are packing in far more salt than their meat-based counterparts. The Beyond Burger has 380 mg of sodium, 16% of the total recommended daily limit.
Comparing the Beyond Burger and the Impossible Burger reveals extremely similar nutritional info. The Impossible Burger has slightly more fat, but in most ways, the two burgers are extremely similar – at least on paper.
Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods are continuing to tweak their recipes. Earlier this year, Impossible Foods launched the Impossible Burger 2.0, designed to be substantially healthier (and tastier) than the original, with less fat and sodium.
