Right now, it sounds like two people at Yahoo are going to get fired over CEO Scott Thompson’s deceptive resume. (For years, he allowed people to believe he has a computer science degree that he does not have.)
One person is Yahoo board member Patti Hart, whose job it was to vet Thompson before hiring him.
The other, according to a speculating Kara Swisher, will be “a lower-level minion” who was tasked with writing Thompson’s bio for the SEC and the company’s Web site.
We are OK with Hart getting canned. The point of vetting is to prevent things like this from happening. Vetting was her job and she blew it.
But if some poor work-a-day gets booted because Thompson won’t take the blame for allowing others to believe he had a more impressive education than he had, then watch out.
Because if that happens, there will be an explosion of outrage from all corners. Yahoo employees, shareholders, and the press will not take it.
