Fearing their game against the Patriots this weekend might be blacked out, the Chargers sent out the following tweet on Wednesday: “1,000 general tickets must be sold by 1:15 p.m. Thursday to lift blackout. Tix available online at Chargers.com.”Minutes later, the Patriots got in on the hot social media action by tweeting: “Calling all Pats fans out West, 1,000 general tickets must be sold by 1:15 p.m. Thurs to lift blackout. Tix avail online at Chargers.com.”
Hours later, the tickets were sold out, the blackout threat ended, and about 500 happy West Coast Patriot fans got tickets to see their team potentially knock the Chargers out of contention for good.
“It’s the power of Twitter,” said Patriots spokesman Stacey James.
