2,000 Icelandic protesters gathered outside Iceland’s parliament at the weekend, throwing eggs and vegetables at the country’s MPs as the fall season opened, reports Iceland Review. The protest apparently claimed one victim, knocking Left-Green MP Árni Thór Sigurdsson to the ground with an egg.
“The egg hit me in the left temple,” Sigurdsson told mbl.is after the attack. “It hit a bad spot so I felt dizzy and lost my balance. I’m still a little dizzy but otherwise fine.”
Protestors are thought to be planning another event later today.
AP reports that while the Icelandic economy is slowly recovering (you can see why here), many Icelanders took out foreign-currency loans and mortgages during the country’s economic boom that they have struggled to pay back.
